Candida
Candida, thrush or related problems such as athelete’s foot, jock itch, etc are all variations of yeast infections, where the yeast bacteria that normally inhabit your body get out of control.
Doctors normally prescribe an anti-fungal medication such as Canesten to get rid of the infection. The only problem is that if your body chemistry is unbalanced, the candida soon returns. You are more suseptible to candida when your immune system is compromised. Often, food intolerance leads to an unbalanced system or a compromised immune system and can make the candida seem intractable.
Dietary changes can often eliminate or at least reduce the candida. Things to try include:
- Eliminating yeast: Bread and cereal is an obvious point to start, but many other foods contain yeast. Beer and wine are high in yeast. Grapes & avocadoes have yeast in their skin. Many processed foods contain yeast in various forms.
- Reducing sugar: Yeast live on sugar. The less you intake, the faster they starve. So cutting your consumption of sugary foods and even fruit for a few weeks can make a massive difference.
- Increase probiotic bacteria. Other forms of bacteria also live in your gut, and increasing your intake of these can help restore the balance and bring the candida under control. Natural yoghurt is a great source, as well as capsules of probiotic bacteria.
